PNE 4  v  1  Wigan Girls

PNE Under 16’s overcame a strong Wigan side to take the Cup home, winning 4-1. However the score line does not reflect the competitive nature of the game.

PNE went ahead with a penalty and were two goals to nil up at half-time.

Wigan started the second half strongly putting PNE under considerable pressure. A goal-line clearance, fingertip saves and the woodwork came to the aid of PNE who made it 3-0 with a breakaway goal.

Wigan did not give up and deserved their goal to make the game 3-1 but a defender drilled home the fourth goal to secure the win and confirm that PNE Under 16’s would be the champions.

Both sets of spectators left the game having witnessed a thrilling and competitive affair.
